Welcome to Covenant Kids! 2006-09-17 fall fellowship 004c.jpg

Worship should be a place where both young and old feel welcome and know that they belong. Covenant assumes that when we baptize a child into the family of God, that child has a meaningful place in what that family does as a group, including worship. Our desire is for the children at Covenant to participate fully in worship services beginning in the first grade. Covenant values the contributions that children make to our worship experience. We can all learn from how children worship God!

Children age 6 (i.e. first grade) and under are invited to attend either of our Sunday morning worship services. There is even a special children's message and special worship bulletins to enhance the worship experience for the children. After the children's message, children may either stay with their parents or attend special activities for the remainder of the service. Infants and toddlers under 3 may stay in the nursery for the entire service, but they are also welcome to stay with the parents as well.

SUMMER SUNDAY SCHOOL FOR KIDS!!! Print

Yes, we will be having summer Sunday School classes for the kids ages 2 through 5th grade. Due to some changes in the construction plans, we now have rooms available to have three Sunday School classes for kids this summer. We will have classes for the following age groups:  2-5 year olds, K - 2nd grade, and 3rd - 5th grade.

In these classes we will explore the concept of being compassionate and comforting as disciples of Christ. We will learn how some of the not so familiar characters in the Bible displayed these traits and characteristics even though they were not the familiar "12 Disciples of Jesus" we all know and love. Your child will have the opportunity to get to know some unfamiliar men and women from the Old Testament who displayed the characteristics of discipleship by trusting God and being obedient to him. We are all familiar with Noah and Moses but this summer your children can learn about some not so well known Bible folks such as Samuel, Elijah, and Jonah.

Plan now for your children to join us for this 8 week summer series which runs from June 1st through July 20th. And if you have a Sunday or two that you can help in the classroom, please contact Cyndy Sarkisian as soon as possible. We will have Bible lessons, do activities, play games, and have a great time celebrating the Word of the Lord in Summer Sunday School.

Spring Elementary Retreat at Maranatha 2008 Print

Hello Fellow Presbyterians,

Maranatha Dogwood Resize.jpgMy name is Cyndy Sarkisian and at 40 years of age, I’ve just experienced my first Elementary Spring Retreat at the Maranatha Camp and Conference Center. The day began early on a Saturday morning as 17 kids and 3 chaperones from my church, Covenant Presbyterian, loaded in our 3 car caravan. Although I thought the “camp experience” would begin at registration I quickly learned that the experience really began as soon as we pulled away from the church parking lot. I had the perfect opportunity to get to know some of our girls as well as the fact that “fetch” didn’t mean retrieve, it really means “cool.” Go figure.

As we entered the campus, the beauty of God’s Spring enveloped us and boy was it ever “fetch.” Green grass and leaves covered the land and sky and the white dogwoods were breathtaking. What a glorious opportunity to partake of the beauty of God’s creation of nature and of our children as they delighted in that beauty.

And the weekend was full of surprises. Surprise one was how easily over 50 kids from various churches just came together in play, learning, and fellowship. Old friendships were rekindled and new ones were begun. The second surprise was the wonderful look of interest and contentment on the kids’ faces as they listened to the Bible stories told by our keynote speaker, Lydia Locke. Not once during all three sessions did one child have to be asked to quiet down or pay attention. Lydia had them engrossed from the first word. How “fetch” is that?

I suppose the biggest surprise was that in a world of technology and man made entertainment, our kids were absolutely ecstatic over the “Banana Olympics” which included events such as taping a banana to a Frisbee and preparing a life jacket for same banana out of a Styrofoam cup so it wouldn’t drown being pulled down river behind a canoe! And the activities didn’t end there. The kids played four-square with the chaperones, canoed and kayaked, ate delicious meals, sang great songs led by the Maranatha Youth Council, and challenged each other to many, many ping pong games.

If you’ve never experienced the beauty and joy of a retreat or camp at Marnatha, sign up as a chaperone or leader today. You will be blessed by the beauty of God’s green earth and the delight of happy children enjoying time spent together with God. “Fetch,” definitely “Fetch.”
