Staff Move to Chapel Completed

The staff move from the Administrative wing to the Chapel was completed yesterday (Saturday).  Troy Hester, Vince Visone, and their crew of hard-working helpers had to run cable to the Chapel so that the staff’s computers and telephones would be up and running come Monday morning.

If you are looking for Mark, Leigh Ann, Debbie, or Marilyn, the Chapel is the place to look.  Dave Reiss moved to the basement and Fran is still in her old spot;  Fran will move to the Chapel in late August.  If you are looking for Hal, you might look somewhere in Africa!

Mailboxes for staff and officers are in the Chapel, opposite Debbie’s desk.

A New Phone System

Along with the move of staff to the Chapel (temporary move), Vince Visone and his crew installed a new phone system.  Initially, this system will function similarly to the existing system, but eventually a number of new features will be added.  Look for details on the new functionality later.

Sanctuary – How Many Contractors?

Question:  How many Presbyterians does it take to change a light bulb?

Answer: “you can fill in your own punch line here.”  One possibility might be: None.  They would name a study committee of five which would meet for two months.  The committee

would then vote 4-1 that change was not good.

Question: How many subcontractors does it take to renovate the Covenant sanctuary?

Answer: About eleven.

That count begins with the company that is refinishing, recovering, and storing the pews, and ends with the installation of the new vide/sound system.  Included between the beginning and the end are contractors to do the demolition (Turner Universal), electrical, heating and air conditioning, drywall, tile, carpet, etc.

Now that contracts have been signed, the sanctuary has become a beehive of activity as all these contractors have converged on the site to plan their work, order and arrange for timely delivery of needed materials, and schedule their part of the renovation.

It may look like mass confusion, with workers everywhere and stacks of building materials all over the floor, but we have FAITH that it will all come together into a sanctuary that we are proud of and that visitors will find both the facility and the congregation very welcoming.

Reminder:  the sanctuary is a construction area.  No one is allowed in, but you can peek through the windows on Sundays or, during the week, get a better look through an open door.

Construction Begins in Children’s Wing

The sanctuary is not the only construction area!  With a target date for completion of August 8 (preschool starts on August 11) plumbing and concrete contractors have been busy in the children’s wing. Renovation of the two bathrooms is currently underway.  When this work is completed, both Men’s and Women’s bathrooms will be expanded and a handicap bathroom will be added.  Along with the work on the bathrooms, room 14 is being converted to a kitchenette/pantry for use by the Preschool and Sunday School programs.

A Little Quieter

If you were at the church late this week, it might have sounded a little quieter.  Most, if not all, of the rock removal needed before building the new building and parking lot has been completed.  There is still some rock to be removed in the playground area in order to run underground cable to supply power to the ne building.
