Christmas Eve in the Sanctuary!

As a result of a super effort by the construction team, the sound-video contractor, and Covenant’s technology team of Jeff Brouwer, Troy Hester, and John Simms, Covenant members, their families, and friends were able to experience Christmas Eve in the newly-renovated sanctuary. An estimated 650 worshipers attended one of the three services. While not all the pieces were in place (the organ won’t make its debut until January 18), everyone enjoyed the brighter lights, lighter colors, soft seats, much-improved sound (no more dead spots) and video capabilities. And, the new grand piano, with Adriana Perera at the keyboard, made its debut at the 7:00 service.

The sanctuary is still a work-in-progress with tweaking of the lighting, sound, and video systems still to be completed by the technology team.

Music Room to Open Soon

Director of Music Bryan Page and the adult choir are looking forward to their move into the new Music Room. Turner hopes to turn this area, as well as the renovated bathrooms, over on February 2. It will take a day or two to move everything up from the old choir room in the basement.

Children’s Wing Work Complete

Workers were busy during the Christmas break installing a new fire protection system in the Children’s wing. A new sprinkler system, additional smoke detectors, a new ventilation system, and modification of the classroom doors were all included in the work mandated by the fire marshal. The work was completed this past week (after school hours) and inspections were completed as well.

How Do You Get to the Church Office? – Version XLII

With continued demolition, plus construction of the elevator and new library, the doors into the Chapel (temporary church offices) are now within the construction zone and cannot be used to get into the office. Here are the latest directions that will help you find Hal, Mark, Fran, Debbie, and Marilyn:

1. Walk through the doorway opposite the sanctuary doors.

2. Turn right and go through the bathroom (!)

3. Turn left and you will be at Debbie’s desk in the office.

Alert! You Need to Find Another Place to Meet! Alert!

The schedule for renovation of the Adult Education Wing has been announced. We will turn the wing over to Turner on February 23 for asbestos remediation and room renovation. Turner expects to return the area to Covenant on March 20.

The Adult Sunday School team is developing a plan for Sunday School and for Wednesday Night Alive during this period. Other meetings will need to be scheduled on an individual basis. Among possible on-site meeting locations will be the sanctuary, the old choir room in the basement, children’s media center (former library) in the children’s wing, and the church office.

Narthex Carpeting Delayed

The Building Committee, after noticing the amount of mud, and water that was tracked into the Narthex during our recent rains, has delayed installation of the narthex carpet until construction is complete.

Due to renovation of Fellowship Hall and the lack of storage areas, some of the FH furniture will be temporarily moved to the narthex hallway. Once other areas under renovation or construction become available, this furniture will be relocated.

Other Dates to Know

Fellowship Hall: Demolition and renovation begins on Tuesday, January 13. Work should be completed by the end of March.

New Building: Construction completed by the end of March and open in mid-April

Library/Elevator: Completed by end of March
