THE CENTER OF COVENANT’S OUTREACH
Jesus is at the center of Covenant’s mission of discipleship. We want everyone to know his goodness and grace! We look for that day when all peoples around the globe will lift Jesus up as the One who alone is worthy of worship.
THE FOUNDATION OF COVENANT’S OUTREACH
In Jesus we believe God expresses his deepest heart of love for us and all the World’s peoples. Relationship, rooted and guided by Scripture, forms the basis and foundation for our outreach. In Matthew 28:16-20, Jesus has charged us with the mission of making disciples. We thus believe, and have experienced, this disciple-making as a process that takes place in relationships. We each have a story to tell. Discovering the redemptive places where Jesus’ story crosses over and connects with our stories is a process of both listening and sharing our stories with one another. As we do, we are drawn deeper into the grace and love of relationship with Christ and one another.
These connecting points of relationship are gifts from God that are empowered and directed by Jesus through the gift of his Spirit. We participate in the promise Jesus makes and the model he gave to his earliest disciples in Acts 1:8 when he says: You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.
THE POWER OF COVENANT’S OUTREACH
From this simple charge, Jesus tells us that we will be his witnesses when his Spirit comes upon us. Thus, prayer is central to our vision and practice of mission. The Spirit is our teacher and leader. Our heart’s desire is to stay in step with Him as we humbly and joyfully reach out in Jesus’ name.
THE SCOPE OF COVENANT’S OUTREACH
Our scope of outreach follows the dynamic equivalent represented in the pattern Jesus’ presents as the four fronts of mission:
The Local Front = Jerusalem
The Regional Front = Judea
The International/ Cross-cultural Front = Samaria
The Unreached Front = The Ends of the Earth.
